back to Awards & NomineesThe Inspiration Awards - Milly Pyne
12 year old Milly has raised over £100,000 for charity, including an amazing £35,000 for Cancer Research UK's '2011 Race for Life' held in June of this year. Milly has been helping to raise money for good causes, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, Over the Wall, Jeans for Genes and Post Pals since she was three years old.
Her sister, Alice, has terminal cancer and the two girls are constantly plotting and planning their next venture together! Unfortunately, Milly is no stranger to illness herself having been born with a rare genetic condition called Crouzon's Syndrome - where the bones in her skull were fused at birth. Milly is always cheerful despite many operations and hospital visits. At nine-years-old, surgeons performed an operation where they separated her skull and facial bones and fixed a metal head brace known as a RED frame to allow growth.
Milly spent two months recovering and during this time, she wrote a story called 'My life at Great Ormond Street' which was published in a book to benefit the hospital. Milly also created a Christmas card for the hospital which raised an enormous sum of money. Listen to Milly
