Kathryn is the first woman to win an Oscar for Best Director in the 82 years of the Academy Award's history.

She is only the fourth woman in history to be nominated for the honour. She has directed countless films including Near Dark, Point Break, The Weight of Water and The Hurt Locker for which she won Best Director. Her Iraq thriller The Hurt Locker scooped six Oscars, including Best Picture.

Kathryn is a talented painter and has works in the Museum of Modern Art.
